    PDX Node
    6:309pm
    Walmart Labs

Join us for the first meeting of the Portland Node users group. We'll have food, code, and a lovely presentation about Terraformer from Esri by Jerry Sievert.

    --What is Terraformer?--

Terraformer is a library for converting geographic data between different mapping formats and GeoJSON. But it's more than that, it's a Geo-Toolkit that works in node as well as in the browser via AMD or CommonJS, providing tools for reading and writing from multiple geo formats, converting to and from web mercator, an RTree index, and some simple polygon tools.

You can check it out at https://github.com/geoloqi/Terraformer

We'll also get cracking on what direction we'd like to take the group!

    MobX Berlin 2012
    9am through Saturday, November 17 at 6pm
    Heimathafen Neukölln

MobX - your premier annual conference for Mobile User Experience, small screen Interaction Design and usable interfaces on smart devices.

This conference is for all you creative minds out there who deal with User Experience, interfaces and interactions in mobile contexts. It’s not really for developers (but we do love you, nonetheless). MobX is for all those who love small, mobile interfaces and smart experiences, good usability and consistent behaviour.

There are a multitude of mobile gadgets, phones and tablets out there, with a mind-boggling variety of interfaces – with often dubious usability. We operate small screens in cars, trains and planes and elsewhere.

Or is there no such thing as a mobile device, as some say, just mobile context? A star-studded line-up of international experts and mobile thinkers will give us their take on this and other key topics. (And there will be time to party as well!)

Join us in Berlin and learn from the best.

    WhereCamp Portland 2012
    6pm through Sunday, October 14 at 3am
    Metro Regional Center

WhereCampPDX is a free, volunteer-created unconference for anyone interested in geography and technology. This year’s event will be happening October 12th-14th, 2012 with a full day of unconference sessions at Metro Regional Center on the 13th.

An unconference is a conference planned by the participants. We convene together, plan sessions, and break-out into the proposed session discussions and activities. This gives everyone an opportunity to bring to the table the things that interest them the most, and talk about emerging topics that are still new and exploratory. We value open participation, providing access to new voices, and lowering barriers to participation. As a result, the event is driven by the interests and talents of the participants.
